Summer is the season for light and fresh food; visiting farm stands or going to the grocery store can be expensive; especially if you have a family. Planting your own vegetable garden can save you money at the grocery store. You pick them in your yard and prepare them in your kitchen; there is no greater sense of accomplishment.
There are many benefits to planting your own garden:

Living in the city has its advantages, your close to everything you need and delivery when you don’t feel like going out, however it is a trade off, most people living in the city do not have a yard to plant a garden or they don’t have the time; however it is possible to live in the city and have a garden at the same time – Container Gardening.
Container gardening is an excellent way for people to grow fresh vegetable without the need of a yard. Container gardening requires very little maintenance. Virtually any type of container can be used, and very minimal space is required. Even a small balcony can be used as long as it is in the sunlight.
Most home improvement stores carry large selections of container for gardening, from small window boxes to large barrels. You can plant an assortment of health vegetables with minimal amount of work. It is important to choose the right container for each vegetable; lettuce grows well in a container, and tomatoes grow better in baskets. If you choose to plant an herb garden, a window box will be your best choice; it is long and rectangular and you can plant many different herbs. It will be necessary to do a little research before planting.
If you do have a yard, and want to plant a vegetable garden, make sure it is in direct sunlight; all plants need it to flourish. One of the best things about planting your own garden is that you choose what you want to grow; however it is important that you give each plant enough space. If you plant them too close together, the plants will not grow.
